The Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois is one of the world’s finest achievements in architectural concrete. The Armbruster Company directed its restoration and established a preservation program for its continuous care.
In 1983 Mr. Armbruster began an award winning, ten-year restoration of the Temple building that was completed on schedule and below budget. In 2002 the Baha’is asked The Armbruster Company to be the Program Manager for the restoration of the Temple’s terraces, monumental stairs, fountains and gardens. The Armbruster Company managed the design and construction, served as the principal engineer, provided shop drawings for precast concrete and supplied technical direction for the Baha’i Temple Concrete Studio which produced 7,700 pieces of exposed aggregate precast concrete needed for the project.
The Bahá'ís want the House of Worship to be in outstanding condition for the next 1,000 years. They had Mr. Armbruster create a systematic, continuous care program incorporating in-house staff, inspections, scheduled maintenance, information management, major repairs and a network of supporting consultants and contractors. The Armbruster Company developed a Temple Conservation Library with a computerized catalog to cross-reference 90 years of information related to the Temple’s construction, restoration and maintenance.
